Yes you can shoot buckshot through a 28" barrel.

Guess I don't follow this. I am pretty sure that all 835 barrels have changeable chokes unless it a rifled barrel but the rifled barrel is 24" with iron sights.

I have three barrels for mine, including a rifled one and the others have chokes you can change.

The biggie is you have to get a barrel that matches your chamber length, should be 3.5" in your case. Just make sure it's made for the 835. If it was me I'd get one around 24" if able. Most any you look at should take the screw in chokes. Online retailers are likely to have the better selection and price.

It has a 28" barrel. The barrel end isnt threaded so I cant attach a choke

What barrel is on it now? I'd like a shorter, easy to carry and swing setup for coyote hunting, 24-26". That said I'd use a 28" barrel if that's what came with it. The next steps are higher quality shells and a choke matched to what you are trying to do.

I've used #4 buckshot, 'T' shot' and some of the 'Hevi-Shot' 'waterfowl' loads in the larger shot. For most of the coyote hunting I have done, a shotgun makes more sense than a rifle. The action is close range in thicker cover.
