Shore fishing set up?

I have an older, large Daiwa spinning reel on an 11' telescoping rod. I was wondering what to spool it with. I've heard I want 20# mono? Also, What size hooks. I'll be fishing the Milwaukee harbor mostly.

20 pound power pro is only 6 lb mono diameter not over kill. I know tons of walleye guys that use 20lb for their snap jigging rods. If 20lb is over kill then 50lb and up musky is over kill.

If you decide to go with the super braid and the fluorocarbon leader you can learn on youtube the Albright knot to connect your two lines.

Suffix 832 20lb or 20lb power pro with a 12-15lb fluorocarbon leader forget the nanofil it's not as strong or durable. Nanofil great line but more for bass and walleye. That's what I use it for. There's ways to stop wind knots in power pro.

20 pound may work for a bottom slip sinker rod but I'd put on lighter mono to get distance casting with an 11 foot rod. Looking at what other anglers do; you can float some spawn with a slip float, rig live bait or a crawler on a slip sinker, or see what kind of distance you can get with your longer rod and some heavier plugs or spoons and cast till your arms fall off. Some do all three at once until one of them works. The water is so clear in Lake Michigan since mussels invaded. Have fun this year....
