The 2014 commercial trap nets have been back in the lake since mid-April. Please refresh your knowledge of the markings and how to avoid them. Keep wire cutters close at hand to cut lines and down rigger cables if your gear becomes entangled in the net or one of the many anchor lines.

WI Sea Grant is your one stop shop for trap net safety information: http://bit.ly/Trap_Net_Safety, and trap net maps, bouy locations, and depth: http://bit.ly/Trap_Net_Coordinates.

I’ll provide updates on locations throughout the fishing season.

Trap nets are coming out as we approach the end of the month.

During the period from June 29 to Labor Day, commercial trap nets will only be in the area south of 44 08.917' and north of 44 05.550' between the depth contours of 60' on the West and 150' feet on the East.

Check out our page on net safety for addition information. http://bit.ly/Trap_Net_Safety

The nets sit on the bottom and are about 40 feet tall, so you shouldn't snag on anything if you are just boating (depending on the depth). Watch out for the buoys that mark the anchors and the pot.

What size are the nets? Do they come up to the surface so if your not fishing can you drive through the area?
