I’ve been fishing the Great Lakes long enough I should know this, but I don’t. What species is this in the picture?  Shows identifying traits of both a large female lake phase brown trout, but also an Atlantic Salmon.  The fish is a female, and was caught off Sturgeon Bay WI over 200’ of water on a five color spoon.

How much did it weigh?  We got a 27lb'er out of Port Washington like 15-20 years ago...

Seeforellen brown. Square tail gives it away. Very nice one at that.

It’s a seeforellen brown. Atlantic salmon have a tail similar to kings. That fishes tail is totally square.

It would be nice if they would stock Atlantic’s tho.

Interesting fish for sure, the more I look around the more I can see Atlantic, but the tail keeps throwing me off too.

Attached is a photo I found in a Brown Trout of the Great Lakes article. Seems to be pretty close to what you have.

That’s what I thought as well based only on the tail,  until the dark gums got me thinking. I don’t remember seeing dark gums on the browns I’ve caught. Also, the dark pectoral fins and upper jaw not extending past the eye are characteristic of an Atlantic.  Therefore,  I’m stumped.

Looks to me like a Seafer, Brown ! Squared off tail.
