Wouldn't there still be some Rainbows up high? I thought their preferred temperature was 58 to 62 degrees. Before we used the Fish Hawk we always went by SOG off the Lowrance and rarely got anything on the down riggers. Now it's just the opposite, had this same thing even before the East winds stirred everything up. Caught 40+ fish over the last 11 days and about 5 were Bows and only about 8 fish on lead core.
No high line hits because the top 60' water temps are too warm and fish are down deep. Sat morning water temps didn't drop below upper 50's till at least 60ft down. Caught all fish on 10 color and deeper except one rainbow on a 5 color. But the Fish do move up quite a bit once the sun goes down in the evening.
Started using a Fish Hawk this year and definitely increased out Rigger hits. Issue is now we are not getting the high line hits. I know its a speed deal, but what is the best compromise between the two. With the NE winds that just mixed the water up we've been running the riggers down 100' to 120' at 2.3 to 2.4 on the Fish Hawk but then our SOG is only 1.8 at times, to slow for the high lines.Do we just need to target one or the other?
