I have a small boat and want to try trolling on Green Bay for Browns and maybe salmon if they are there. I will be running two lines.  I have 25 pound Berkely big game for the downrigger. I want to run a dypsey on the other side, But the depth charts are for 20lb mono.

Is 20lb strong enough if I have may drag set good?

I have a rubber shock absorber on the dypsy and I was thinking orunning 20lb floro from the dypsy to the spoon.

My fishing buddy PK shocked me when he caught a brown on a dipsey and a KO wobbler spoon sent out on 20 pound mono, years back. I was using lead core and plugs. Mono was the high tech, stealthy clear standard for catching fish for decades. I've gone back to it in some cases for one reason. Spiney water fleas are everywhere now because of the warmer water and they really stack up on poly fiber lines. The skinny strong lines are great for diving discs and pound balls because they cut thru the water better than mono but, if they clog up your rod tip reeling in your fish you need someone to help you strip them down the line as you reel in. Mono doesn't dive as deep but use it if ya got it. Pic is of spineys I found off the docks out of Bayshore Park.

I agree with fish hound. Braid is imo the way to go. However, if u are under a strict budget and can’t really switch to power pro I personally think you would be alright. BUT… braid is much better.

Nothing is more simple than running a rigger, it's the easiest way to control depth.

I wouldn't use 20# mono around the zebra muscle infested Bay, I would run braid. Don't worry about the depth charts, there are lots of variables that make them inaccurate anyway.

To keep things simple, I may even skip using the downrigger and run two dypsys. I won't be fishing any water over 68 feet .

Your fine. I’ve done 20lb for yrs. Switched to power pro but 20 mono is fine…. My opinion
