I decided to give ice camping a try recently with my wife on a remote northern lake.  Anyone here have any experience ice camping?  Any tips, tricks, recommendations?  One major tip that I'd suggest is the foam pieces to cover the ice of the pop up.  I was amazed how much insulation they provided and how dry they kept our floor.  Here's a vlog of our experience.

When we winter camped, we used heavy canvas tents as lodges and used small wood burning stoves to heat the tents.   We did not camp on the ice, but we did manage to stay warm.

The snow was 4 feet deep, but crusty trails would harden over time.  So if one stayed on the trail, one could stay on top.

I have lots of good memories from staying in lodges in the cold winters.

The Penokee hills, near Copper Falls State Park, are unforgiving as Lake Superior, but equally scenic.

A Midwest Outdoors writer from years back tried an overnighter with his dog. He slept most of the night after catching a few pannies. The next morning he woke up next to his fishy smelling dog and his catch was gone. The dog had eaten all the fish!

Getting to be that time of year again.  I am hoping to hit the ice earlier this year for a camping trip.  I think once gun deer season is over people will be a bit more amped up for the ice season.

I enjoy winter camping.  We go to the Boundary Waters and snowshoe in, towing our sleds.  We sleep in tents, they are lighter to drag along rather than an insulated house.  No heater, just nicely insulated sleeping bag.

Oh my God, you kept a bass?

Just kidding. Great video. I've always wanted to do an overnighter.
