Kids mom in law dropped off 20 lbs of chickens. I never had them, fried up a pan full with butter. They do taste like chicken to a point. Can I freeze them or have to dehydrate. I'm thinking winter stews could get better. Thanks
The woods exploded with mushrooms this weekend in Vilas county. Finally found some chanterelles.
What is typically the latest you can find decent mushrooms? Guessing it ends sooner the farther north you are, but would northern Marinette county be decent for a while yet? Any ideas about northern MN in early October?
Found 2 hens over the weekend. S.E. Wi.
Nothing going for me yet in Central Wisconsin
They are excellent. Take a long blade knife along and cut it off close to the ground leaving the root and stem. Wash it in cold water, separate, divide, and slice it. Place the slices on a cookie sheet wet and place in the freeze. Put the frozen slices in a Zip-Lock freezer bag. I just saute mine in butter until tender, don't over cook them. You will see why they are called "Chicken of the Woods".
Keep a tight line!!!
Thanks JA, I’ll definitely have to check that spot again this year!
