Anybody have any reviews/comments on the Remington 783? THe reviews I saw on the Cabela's site make it seem pretty nice, but figured I'd solicit some additional feedback. The price seemingly can't be beat (under $400 for a scoped combo, with the understanding I'll likely need to upgrade the scope), and I need a rifle for this season. I guess the biggest question is will I regret this purchase instead of holding out for a higher end model.

The 783 id for guys who shoot 1/2 box per year. I know 2 guys who own them. They shoot a deer every few years and in 20 yrs they went through 5 boxes of ammo. At that rate , both guns will last forever with no problem.

Remington 783 is a simple and straight shotgun with pump action. It is very famous among shooter being great in terms of performance and reliability. It is commonly used for hunting. It is available different model with different configuration like 28, 30 or 32 inches barrel and 12 inch length of pull.

my son has this gun in a 30.06 and is happy with it. ive watched some documentarys lately on remingtons misfire lawsuits and it scares me! i just bought one of the best guns ive owned, its a mossberg patriot walnut stock .308 with a vortex 3x9x40 scope at dicks sports for $399.98! this is advertised on dicks website for that price with the vortex scope and they will try to sell it to you with a cheap bushnell but i made them sell me the gun with the advertised vortex for $399.98 and they did it. scheels and gander want $549!

I checked out a Savage along with the Remington. I thought it seemed really light, which for some may be what they want. Personally i thought the Remington felt a bit more stable. But I have heard the savage is quite a tack driver.

I have not shot one, but being a Reminton 700 fanatic, I had to look at one. Bottom line is it's a 700. The ejection port looked smaller than a 700, but the guy was telling me that's because a 700 was mad tone top loaded, where the 783 is made to be mag fed. The other drawback that I see no is the bolt handle is plastic. That concerns me.
