Does anyone have any knowledge of inland lakes with Whitefish in them?

Annes Regret Lake Mendota NEVER had whitefish, it had ciscoes!  They are different, although look fairly similar.  They died off due to the water getting too warm, they're a cold water fish, and have never really rebounded since.  Heard of a few being caught through the ice the last few years, but not many.  The DNR did not kill them off though, it was a natural occurrence.

What I would like to know is how the DNR "killed" all the Whitefish.........and why?

Used to catch a few on lake Mendota. Then the DNR  killed them off. They also made perch fishing null and void. Killing white fish also killed the worms on Mendota. That's what the perch feed on. Thank you to the DNR, not.

You can get them in schools along the shoreline up till the 2nd week in June. Schools is a strong word. They pack up. 8 to 12 fish. They cruise the shalows.

I've been told that the whitefish seek out cold, clear water and go deep in summer.  I have not heard of anyone targeting them specifically in summer nor have I ever caught one by accident trolling.

Hey BugleTrout,

Do you know if people target whitefish in the summer along the east shore? I'm from GB and my parents still live there so we get out in winter a couple times a year but we only fish for walleye in the bay and salmon on the big pond during open water. Never really hear anyone fishing for Whitefish except for in the winter. I'd imagine they gotta be in there somewhere though.

It's not inland but just fish the east side of Green Bay.  If you can't catch them there, you should take up knitting.

Trout lake has whitefish. Dropshot with wax worms in around 75 feet of water right now. They should be on the spawn.

There is only about 2 or 3 I believe. Find the deepest/clearest lakes in Vilas county and you're halfway there.
