How To Catch Weakfish [Gray Trout] From Shore - Best Rigs & Bait
In the spring, shedder crab and bloodworms are the best baits for weakfish. Drifting the back bays with a Cape May Float Rig loaded with shedder crab or bloodworms is a super effective way to catch them. It is also an excellent way to find your own weakfish hot spot. In the fall, live-lined snapper blues can't be beat.
if you ask where to found weakfish? Weakfish are found along the Atlantic coast from Massachusetts to southern Florida, straying occasionally to Nova Scotia, Canada and into the eastern Gulf of Mexico. They are most abundant from New York to North Carolina. Adults migrate north and south, and onshore/offshore seasonally along the Atlantic coast.
Use your electronics to find drop-offs as weakfish will sit on the deeper edge of abrupt depth changes during the day. Shallow structure in western Long Island Sound will also hold weakfish during the summer months, and anglers have success both trolling and jigging for squeteague in these areas.
