We were fishing Delavan this past Thur. I casted out my line with a lure on it. All the slack in the line went straight up into the sky. It just stayed there. This kept happening. The one time I cast out and left the bail open and the line kept feeding off the reel. Going straight up. It was hilarious. The weather was raining and low 70s. Water temp 74. Any ideas? We were sober

It was raining heh. That was electricity in the sky from the pending thunder storm. Get out of there! graphite rods conduct electricity, sometimes you can here them crackling too. Not a good sign!

I assume he meant shocked by the static electricity. I had a cheap rod that actually had an electric shock warning on it LOL.

Happened in a tourney once. My partner complained about getting "snapped" when he picked up the rod. Told him to suck it up Buttercup. When it happened to me, it dawned on us what was going on. We bailed quickly after that. No big clouds directly overhead but there were some thunderheads nearby. Not a good situation. Mrt.

Everyone is correct, its static electricity. Nature doesn't give a much better warning signal to GET OFF THE WATER. Worried

I allso had this happen twice.Once while shore fishing at Montrose harbor. Every time lifted rod it would buzz and spark at eyelets. This was after a storm. Second time was in boat on Chip flowage. Cast my fuzzy grub and it just kept going straight up. Cut the line and got off water as fast as i could. Storm was miles away and sunny where i was. Jim
