Just wondering what every one does during the day and evening? Work? Play? Fish? Camping? Gardening? Smoking? You get the idea........ I work up early to put the venison jerky in the dehydrator and took the fiancé to work and then when I got home I made breakfast. I fixed the bath sink and took a nap. Then I sat around having a few beers waiting for the jerky to get done. Tried to read a book but that's not for me. Oh yea, I cut the lawn b4 the rain. I better save sum stuff 4 2maro. Just wondering what you guys do during the day and evening. Let's here it.

OK...The job I thought would be "nothing much" was a crazy effer. I gave him a [rice and he said h was expecting half that. I responded that we probably weren't a good fit. Started walking towards my truck He grabbed my arm and said that he's cheap but also respects a good reputation.

OK, I'll bite. but I'm always cautious when someone appeals to my ego....(note to self. Make doubly sure to remind yourself of that when it's a woman)

Anyway, guy goes on to tell a story of what one pf my competitors did for him a while back. Entire crew there for an entire day for $200...He kept the wood, had his son cut and split it and he made $6000 selling it.

I know the competitor personally. I could call him and ask but it's such obvious BS that I won't bother. The guy is so full of it but "BS artist" doesn't apply, You'd think a70 year old man would be better at lying but who knows.

He' s near my shop. I'll risk 1,5 hours that he pays me. If not? Meh. I know the risk going in.

People. Both the best and worst part of my job.

However, I was there so long that i was unable to fit my third estimate in. Second one took a long time too but he's a longtime customer who lost his wife last year. I welcome the chance to chat with  a truly kind old gentleman who I've known for years...And who ran his own business for years too. They always have a few REALLY valuable pieces of advice.

7:15 chest imaging. I had one a couple months ago that showed a new "groundglass nodule". It's still there but hasn't grown.

Then came home and took a short nap.

Good day for it. Rain day anyway. Tomorrow is MRI of my shoulder so no production work either. Likely a full tear of one of the rotator cuff muscles. I'm already learning how to adapt....Makes it more difficult to break two of OSHA's recommendations: No one-handed us of a chainsaw, period. Can't with the left hand. Much anyway....And no cutting above my shoulder. Can't do that with my left hand at all. I can't lift anything with any weight above my left shoulder, never mind a chainsaw - even a little 12lb topping saw.

Heading out to look at 3 jobs. One will be a nothing-much. The other two should be substantial.

Split firewood this morning then went fishing.  Figured the critters would be biting before tonights storm.  Well my figuring is usually wrong anyway but i did manage to bring in  a 23 inch walleye.  Beautiful fat fighter too.
She gave me the light bite and I had to let her play with it for a full minute before setting the hook. I thought it was a small bass then getting her close to the boat she mustve realized what was happening and the fight was on.  Circled the entire boat and dove down 8 feet before she tired out enough for the net.   Let 'er go.

Had a volunteer day for my work again at the Blue Lotus in west bend. We sponsor low income seniors to a day in nature! With nature walks, paddle boats, kayaks, swimming in the pool, and of course fishing! All caught some nice fish off the pier
They were all treated to a picnic lunch, live music and bingo.

Up here in Nitiski, Alaska helping out a chirch that is in need of some basic maintenance here and there. Weather up here is about 60 degrees. Mosquitoes are pretty bad. Daylight about 21 hours out of the day but I haven't had any issues sleeping so far cause ive been pretty tired! Today I scraped paint off some posts to get them ready to paint. Just waiting on someone from our group to go buy exterior paint then tomorrow I'll paint the posts. Of what the church has asked our team of 24 people ages 14 up to 71 we got more than half of it done today. Looming forward to see what tomorrow brings us! But yah, the Mosquitoes could definitely go away!

Loaded the 14' dump trailer with big logs twice. First was mostly spruce but also a big Norway maple and a box elder trunk. Paid to dump that load. Second load was mostly smaller maple limbs and one bigger trunk plus some locust and ash. Hauled that 45 minutes away to a friend's place. Came back and neatened up where I dump wood. Total time - including some other smaller "chores" was 7 hours....But when I load the trailer I really pack it in like a puzzle. Shorter pieces on the bottom, big long pieces in the middle and lighter stuff on top, with as few air pockets as possible.

I went bass fishing before early church service this morning and caught my 2nd 20"+ largemouth of the season (and also the 2nd ever lifetime).  It freed itself from my grip before pics.  Guess I gotta learn how to handle the bigger bass...lol.  After church, I grabbed a tape measure and went on an overland hike,  I was blessed to CPR a 48 incher and a 51 incher.  The 51" was stunning.  Pics below.

IQ,
if you haven't already, check out NDYakAngler youtube channel.  He catches a lot of muskies from his kayak. muskies from the kayak

I woke up at o'dark thirty and prepped the fishing gear.  Originally, my son wanted to go and specifically target muskies today on lake "A".  However, he had an all-day medical school exam this week and backed out of fishing at the last minute as he was exhausted.  So, I took the smaller boat, one musky rod and a few lures, one bass rod and pike/bass tackle, one spinning rod, the tripod, one of my musky nets, and planned to hit several other lakes instead.

I fished 3 different lakes today and caught fish on all 3.  In total, I caught 5 largemouth bass, 12 pike (several real nice ones), and a very nice musky (mid 40's).  Several of the bass and a couple of the pike were caught on topwater (whopper plopper)...so much fun when that lure gets vacuumed off the surface.  Also missed/lost several fish that way.

The mid-40's musky I actually caught on a bass/pike lure with 14 lb. mono on my bass casting rod.  What a battle!  The musky completely engulfed the lure and only a couple inches of the leader was sticking out of its mouth.  I really had to take it easy and play out the fish so it did not break my line.  There were several rod bending, drag pulling runs. I was by myself and it took several attempts to get it in the net because I could not horse it in.  After netting the fish, it took a "minute" to get its jaws opened up and the lure out of its mouth.  I actually think it would have been much better for this fish if I had caught it with my musky gear....it would've been a much shorter battle and easier to unhook.  I was thankful I remembered to bring the tripod so I could get a couple of self-pictures.

After a couple of pics, I spend the next 15-20 minutes with that musky.  I hung onto it and pulled it forward in the water with the trolling motor to get steady water flow going through its gills.  That revived the fish quite a bit.  Then I sat by it while it rested on the surface for 7-8 minutes and then kicked away.

Nice IQ!!

I've caught small mouth before in the yak, and you definitely go for a sleigh ride lol!

Went fishing on the river today too, crappie, gills, drum, Rockies, and warmouth...

I got my motor back, so tomorrow we'll get the River skiff put back together.

Turns out there was nothing wrong with the motor, I actually got some bad gas with water in it!

Took the dog for his two mile morning walk. Then pedaled my carbon fiber Fuji gravel bike up to Beloit for coffee and a muffin. Walked through the farmers market. Rode through the old Beloit Corp campus, where I began working in the salvage yard June 7, 1976. I worked outside on the riverbank, cutting scrap steel in to pieces <18” so they could melt it down in the foundry to mix to make ductile iron for paper machinery. Beloit Corp closed in 2000. Several companies and the Beloit YMCA occupy the buildings now, employing Mary’s many as Beloit Corp did in its prime. I then came home and mowed the yard after my 25 mile bike ride.
