Many (most?) counties have suspended all burn permits.  Not sure about the whole state

Down my way we had a considerable amount of rain yesterday and it looks like the same is going to happen again today. Guess it's time to get the snorkel and swim fins  ready..

Despite the over abundance of rain 2 weeks ago and the continuing cool weather the fire danger is high.

Kayaker - I parked under the overpass to save my brand new truck from hail damage, there just happened to be a tornado in the area at the same time lol. When the wind shifted directions 180 degrees, that's when I decided to pull off the interstate. I love storms, takes a lot for me to get spooked by one.

More severe weather expected Monday.  https://www.weather.gov/grb/weatherstory

Carpio and Oldhunter good news!  The Dairy Queen in New London is back open.  as are both bridges and most if not all of downtown.
Lots of traffic as people are hauling out flooded materials-gonna be a couple of months to get it all out.

Junkies For Ice-read your post.  The weather service does not recommend parking under overpasses to avoid tornadoes, the winds will actually accelerate and any airborne objects.  I know it seems safe but can actually be worse.
Safe travels and keep your eyes to the skies!

Gotta love the hot, humid days when all of a sudden the warm breeze is interrupted by a cold one, back and forth. Never a good thing.

Been there a few times when the wind does a sudden 180.  Never good always violent and creepy then again I never got harmed so have to believe thats a good sign.

Friday we were on our way to GB for a wedding. I knew we were driving into the heart of the storm in Wausau, but things sure got bad quick. Ended up pulling over under an over-pass, moreso because it started hailing and I didn't want the hail damage to my truck but also to see what the alert was about. Saw that a tornado touched down roughly 9 miles from where we were at, traveling NE at 35mph. So we sat there and rode it out for about 20 minutes, assuming it was passed us by then.
Got back on the interstate and drove a few miles up the road. In a split second the wind shifted from 20mph from the south, to the same strength directly from the north. Just kind of gave you that weird, uncomfortable feeling so I decided to pull off again at the exit just past Weston to the east. Gas station was a wreck, garbage cans all over the place, gas pedestals were shut down and a big group of people inside the building with the doors locked. They let us in and we used the bathroom and got a case of beer. Talking with the employee I'm like "sounds like that one hit a little too close to home". He responds with "Yeah that was crazy, it touched down by our car wash, jumped the building and landed on the other side of the gas station and continued on".
When we got back on the interstate the second time we drove a half mile up the road and you could see the path of the tornado through the woods, took out a few signs and pole shed from what we saw.

I figured we were just over 2 miles when I assume the tornado touched down when the wind completely switched directions. It was quite the experience and definitely the closest I've personally been to a tornado, and still didn't get to see it!
