Vegetable Garden

Who's got one ? what are you growing ? and how's it coming along? Mine consists of sweet corn , cabbage , brussel sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli ,cucumbers, zucchini, peas, tomatoes , peppers , acorn squash, pumpkins, and assorted spices. The cold wet weather hasn't been very conducive to good growth so far for me. But with warmer weather in the forecast things should turn out. I hope those of you growing fair better.

Both of my pole bean areas terminated in last two days after all that rain. Now gone on a mission trip for a week so I wont get to see the progress and if they find the fencing or climb something else nearby (like they did last year with the tomato cages and even up the apple tree nearby). First planting on onions starting to bulb. I gave them a final fertilize before I left. 1st planting of cukes, a pickling variety, is flowering but all males right now. Can't wait to get some fresh cucumbers!

Local kids had some luck and dropped me off some goodies this morning. Great nitrogen boost for the compost when nitrogen is tough to come by this time of year!

I planted deep to get more root off of stem ...jus a few leaves showing now

Measure them each day so we can see their growth.     Mine are growing 1/2” - 1 1/2” day.

Heirloom tomatoes in the ground. This will be interesting...hardened fo 5 days

Thanks for the info on the hail damage. Ill be interested in seeing how they recover. Just in case, I did stick a few more cucumber seeds in next to these guys since there was not much left of most of the leaves

Cat scratching is common on my early season heirlooms, I expect more.

Arch 2:Pole green beans north,cucumbers on south. This arch gets more evening sun. Cucumbers are doin better on this trellis,but pole beans are doing better on arch 1,with less sunlight...

Ya Killn, I agree with Junkie4ice. Tomatoes produce "suckers",which are essentially another tomato plant in itself per say...bottom line u should be 👍

We don't use fertilizer of any kind, but we do plant our veggies in compost, and the difference between non-compost dirt, and compost is really something!

Such a huge difference!

We compost our eggshells (free range), tree trimmings, weeds / dandelions, flowers, sometimes dinner scraps too (if we're motivated) lol, etc.  It's really a complete food for whatever you're growing.

They have good products for all plants not just tomatoes. They are just way overpriced. You can get just as good organic fertilizer for a fraction of what they charge but they have a lot of mixes that have everything you need in one, so you pay for convenience. 

My tomatoe plants are about 4' to 5' high right now, Gary the Groundhog got into them when I first planted and ate some, dug one up and folded one over but I propped it up and it's doing fine now.
The secret to my large tomatoe plants is the Fox Farm trio of nutrients that I use, they are popular with at home cannabis growers and work great on tomatoe plants.
