SuspendedMusky, it's called the "Carolina Squat".  Some people think it's cool...either that or he has 3 tons of crushed gravel in the bed.  I wonder what his headlights look like to oncoming traffic at night.

I don't understand why this is an attractive modification to your truck (lifting the front much higher than the back).  I passed this yesterday.  

 

RC - I bought a '24 F250 "fleet truck". As barebones as I could get it. It has 'carplay' which should be an improvement over how the audio systems have been since Henry Ford suggested putting a radio into the model T.

It's not an improvement.

Techs have described it to me as "glitchy". I've had the truck 20 months now and have figured out most of the work-arounds to most potential issues. Sometimes that means getting off the freeway and stopping the truck so 'Carplay' can be enabled.

My F350 has heated seats but the driver side's broke. That means sometimes passengers complain..."Control's on your side. Figure it out."

Looking to add my first DEF truck to the fleet. 2018 F550. It's under CDL. That should help both with m issue of finding qualified drivers to ALSO work, and with the fact that my 1992 GMC Topkick has cost me 2X more to operate over the past couple years than it cost me to buy. It's way more money than I want to spend though.

That vid is proof Car/truck companies are full of chit and out to screw their customers by putting in so many gadgets and screens that the driver cant stay focused on the road.  How many seperate controls to control the heat/AC system. How many indicators do I need to tell me the seat heat is on? Dodge thinks I need 3.    2 seperate systems to control the radio.  Dash board and screen brightness control I cant even find it without looking around, then spending several seconds to remember what the button sequence is to access that brightness control.  Is that touch button sequence before or after the screen recall repair?

That said, when I was a kid with 7 people in the house, our fridge lasted my entire childhood until I moved out.

Raising my boys with my wife (4 ppl in the house), we've gone through 3 refrigerators in 16 years...

Like most of everything the more you use it the shorter it lasts.  Example, 2 adults I kid in the household and your clothes washer lasts 10 years, 3 kids in the household and it only lasts 5 years.

When we moved into the home we live in now it came with a 1980s refrigerator in the basement (beer fridge) and a new refrigerator in the kitchen.

The one in the kitchen went bad and we replaced it, and it went bad again,  and we replaced it again.

Then at our cabin up North we replaced the refrigerator in 2019, and again in 2025.

They seem to last about five years.

Meanwhile the one in the basement from 45 years ago is still chugging along with no issues. 

Wife and I did a lot of research into buying new vehicles   We have also seen many problems that friends and family have had with newer models. We decided to stick with our current vehicles,  both 2018 year models. My wife has a Toyota Rav4, I have a F-150 V-6. Neither one of us has has had a single breakdown.  She has 120,000 miles on her Rav4,I have 105, 000 on the truck. I have done most of my driving in my business trucks. Anyway, we decided to wait and see if some more reliable vehicles come out. While my wife sometimes buys a new vehicle,  I usually buy a 2 year old truck. By then, consumer reports make me aware of any issues 

Its called planned obsolesence. The automobile industry seems to have pioneered it though i bet it started way before that

It’s not just trucks. It’s…everything. Washers, dryers, fridges, etc. Things used to be built with pride, to last. We had the same washer and dryer for the 18 years I lived at home. My grandparents bought my parents a new fangled microwave when they first came out, and it was still in the house and working when my Dad died in 2002. I can’t even count how many we’ve been through. Things are built to be disposable now. The manufacturer's and the service industry are complicit in it. We’re all supposed to shrug our shoulders and say that’s just the way it is. Drives me crazy. 

Very much agree with older trucks being way better!

I had a 2000 Silverado that just went, and went, and went!  

Also agree that up until recently Toyota was leading the pack - now they have issues too.

Unsure where you live GOP, but I can share a good tranny place with in the SE part of the State. 

For the lifters / AFM, they're not really an issue if you disable them, so you can get that done and cross it off the things to worry about list.

Well all of this lifter/transmission stuff doesnt make me feel great.  As a really good mechanic says at my local watering hole, they make parts for all of them for a reason. They all have issues even Toyota does now.  Best trucks I ever owned were early 80s and 90s toyotas.
