We were really good on the lake. Less than 10pm winds I would guess.
Sorry to hear about Vilas county  on the water. I had a real good 3.5/4 days.
Skeeters took over once you hit land. Still got lawn mowed and stuff though.
Perch and crappie very active. Gills have 10/11 more degrees before they get active.
Bass and Muskie active, and Walleyes not so much. Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Drove home sunday and loved it.

I live about a 1/2 mile off of US 45.  About a 20 to 1 ratio of vehicles going south vs north this afternoon.  Hunkering down till tomorrow!

The bugs were as bad as I've ever seen in the Northwoods.

Mosquitos were just awful, even in the sun with a 10 mph wind, they would find you!

Went to a little / carry in lake with the yaks. The skeeters were so bad, we threw the yaks in the back of the truck, and drove out of the woods without them secured, or strapped in.  Waited until we hit the road, to tie down. Literally, hundreds were on top of you in 30 seconds.

Do you know the sound you hear when a mosquito is buzzing around your ear? I heard that while fishing on Plum Lake. But it was so loud, it was just crazy. It was coming from I would say 150 yards away.  I looked to the north, and a black cloud was coming my way, it was mayflies!

They were on top of me in no time. I couldn't paddle back to our pier quick enough.  There were hundreds of thousands of them, they were thick and everywhere. While paddling back, they were in my ears, in my eyes, in my nose, and I don't even know how many I ate - it was really something.

My heart went out to anyone who was camping this weekend, it had to be just awful. You truly couldn't even be outside in the woods.

The only reprieve you would get was on the lake shore, or out in the middle of the lake, but at dusk to mayflies moved in! I've personally never seen anything like it.

I agree. So many people up here this weekend. Owning an ice cream shop or a storage shed  Can make you pretty easy money right now.

Mosquitoes are definitely coming. Starting to get bad.
As for the fishing. It’s that time of year when I remind myself that I’m not as good as I think I am. It’s really easy to catch fish. They’re just very vulnerable. Hopefully there’s at least some some catch and release going on out there.  Keep a few.  But please be smart about it.

Same thing on 141, I was in Crivitz yesterday and if it wasn't for the one traffic light they have I would have never got across the highway.

My place is on Hwy. 32. In all the year's that I've been coming up to the Northwoods, I don't believe I have ever seen as many vehicle's on the road for a holiday weekend, as I saw yesterday. I mean, hopefully the Earth doesn't rotate to the North this weekend! The news reported that it's the first memorial weekend in 20 year's with no rain in the forecast. Now for the mosquitoes!!!

River Chaser always tells me to stop complaining about winter because at least there’s no bugs. He’s right. Those damn sand flies/buffalo gnats/black fly/devil bugs are downright atrocious this year. Nothing like carrying a 300 lb piece of flagstone and having those little bastards going in my ears, eyes, under my hat. At least they won’t last long. I hope.

The gnats were brutal up in the Iron river mi area along with the mosquitoes  last weekend.  The gnats were biters too, nasty little things.  Oh and plenty of tics. ?

There getting ferocious all over the state. Fulfilled my 2hr Weed Wacker journey after work yesterday. Had to rig myself for mosquito combat.  Flannel shirt, long pants and knee high boots.
