Good bear sign close to the cabin in mi    The pole has been scratched by a bear every spring since 1988 ,  leaving their scent to communicate with other bear for a number of reasons  . Find out soon if one of us draws a tag .

Finally getting some much needed rain here in the LDF area. Maybe it will put an end to all the pine pollen. Probably hatch a new batch of mosquitoes

I was at my place in Jump River and the skeeters were terrible there too.  My lab would run in the woods and you could see the clouds of them getting stirred up from him!

Weather was GREAT, fishing not so much.....

SKEETERS WERE THE WORST I HAVE EVER SEEN UP THERE LAST WEEKEND.  FRIEND SAID THE SERVICE SPRAYED A DAY OR SO BEFORE WE CAME UP.  WENT TO MENARDS IN RHINELANDER AND THEY WERE OUT OF ZAPPERS SO WE FOGGED THE DECK AND AS SOON AS YOU STEPPED OFF IT THEY WERE ALL OVER YOU.  WEATHER WAS GREAT AND BEER IS ALWAYS COLDER UP NORTH.  BUILT A NICE FIRE PIT AT FRIENDS HOUSE.

On the way to launch the boat today I passed a woman who was jogging. She had on a full sweat suit, gloves and a mosquito head net. I can't imagine needing to jog that bad with the bugs like they are.  Lake had May flys in full bloom like mentioned below. Gills and crappies still cooperated.

hopefully the fish bellies will be empty by the time I get up there. Catching fish is just a bonus for us we're up there to relax and get away and have some fun and good eats.

Thanks for the heads up I'll be going up that way in a week and a half. Hopefully it won't be that bad by then.

Drove home from "up north" this morning.  The Lake Katherine bridge is back to one lane with a stop light.  It took an extra 25 minutes to get from LDF to Wausau.  Lots of traffic headed south, hardly any going north.  Glad I'm going back north tomorrow.  Next time I drive south I'll be checking the mapping apps for delays.

I would expect fishing to drop off For sure!

There were literally thousands upon thousands upon thousands of mayflies on the surface of the water!

And almost every fish in the lake eats them!

Mayfly hatches sure can put the brakes on the bite.   I had that happen to me in Canada . The first 2 days of our trip was great walleye fishing but on the 3,4 and 5th day there were huge hatches and the bite tapered off at least 90%.   It’s a sign of good water quality though.

We were really good on the lake. Less than 10pm winds I would guess.
Sorry to hear about Vilas county  on the water. I had a real good 3.5/4 days.
Skeeters took over once you hit land. Still got lawn mowed and stuff though.
Perch and crappie very active. Gills have 10/11 more degrees before they get active.
Bass and Muskie active, and Walleyes not so much. Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Drove home sunday and loved it.
