Over the last 6 months or so I have seen guys picking up dead deer on the side of highways. Different county each time.

It was a private truck, not a county vehicle or goverment, with a lot of deer in the bed.

Just curious what do they do with the deer? \

do they get paid by county?

I had a '77 Caprice Classic in college. That car was built like a tank. I hit so many animals with that car, we affectionately named her The Game Getter! Deer, turkeys, a rabbit or two and a pheasant come to mind. We had a plastic tarp in the trunk so the trunk didn't get too bloody. We ate well for college students!

Funny though, most were hit on the way home from the bar. We had a lot of dumb puppy left in us back then!

For me it was the only deer I ever killed. Hit a fat 11 point buck in velvet. Mid july. Had to work fast. Cut up and in fridge within 2 hours.

In bad times pooor people pick up road kill to eat. There is a concoction made with vinegar to keep one from getting sick.

Also, although I don't know if they are removing the deer or not, the DNR was doing research on some road kill deer that were in condition to be used. If I recall, it was earlier in the year looking at fat/muscle to see the condition of the animals coming out of winter.
