Four years ago I gave up soda for a year. Didn't really miss it that much. Then I was diagnosed with diabetes 3 years ago, not much after I started drinking soda again. I lost some weight after being diagnosed, watched my blood sugar religiously for a while, but got sick of that kind of diet. This past June I got my blood sugar tested again and it was sky-rocket high! I had started drinking soda again (mountain dew, pepsi, the sugared kind), lots of pasta, bread, everything high in carbs, so I dropped soda again, although I'll now have an occasional diet sun drop (diet dew is nasty!). But what I really miss the most right now is my big tall glass of milk every night for dinner! 8 ounces has about 15 grams of carbs in it, they say. I was drinking twice that. My target carb intake curing a meal is 45 grams total, so I was drinking almost my total carb intake on one glass of milk! Soda, by the way, has as much as 45 grams of sugar, so way more than I should be having at one time!
