If you tracked cost of just about any item that American's consistently use out of necessity on a daily basis, you'd find similar trends. It's just easy to track changes in gas since it's posted on a big sign up front.

What was the cost of gas before the war started? I can't even remember.

what is the legal definition of price gouging in wisconsin

for the past 50 years there have been periodic and hysterical predictions of gas going to $10 within the next few months.  Care to guess why it didnt happen?  The Open Secrets article explains why it didnt happen

for 50 years perpetual whiners have claimed that oil companies have been adding water to the gasoline we buy because there is a certain jargon in the oil industry known as "watering down".  Do you really think there is water in your gasoline?

"if the government would start giving out fines for Price gouging this would all come to an end. So why aren't they doing something about it?."

Simple, money.  https://www.opensecrets.org/industries/indus?ind=E01

Every time gas prices go up it takes forever for the prices to go back down.

It's simple it's called price gouging, which is supposed to be illegal, yeah right.

if the government would start giving out fines for Price gouging this would all come to an end. So why aren't they doing something about it?.

If gas prices went up according to oil prices day by day? Why are gas prices not back down to prewar prices yet? Oil price are back down to where they were before the war.

Hugh - that last post I made was simply an observation about a "group discussion" over the weekend. It wasn't even "venting". it certainly wasn't complaining.

Too many people simply complain without adding anything insightful at all.

My general point regarding high fuel costs is that "This too shall pass". It may be an inconvenience - or a larger expense if you're running a business - but the often repeated the hair-on-fire chicken-little-isms of offer nothing...And the point of my last post is that many people simply make stuff up in order to castrophize it..."It's going to get much worse until orange man goes to jail."...That is just silly, no matter which team you root for. Lots of folks do it though.

Old hunter's post was awesome, BTW.

Got another "cut the cost for a little old lady on a fixed income" job today. Neighbor's tree fell yesterday morning. Dead calm, high humidity. Tree just got too heavy to continue fighting the decay. Box elder....Complaint? Tree is on a slope and I can't get equipment to it.

Junkie, I agree with what you are saying; much more is going on behind the scenes than we know.  But that doesnt necessarily mean that behind the scenes there is some master plan playing out just how it was scripted.  As Mike Tyson said everyone has a plan till they get punched in the face.  Iran controlling the strait is our Punch in the face. Typically a POTUS uses leaks to get false information out so it doesn't jeopardize their credibility.  Everything that I mentioned has been coming straight from the POTUS mouth.

The American media doesn't report the news anymore, they tell you what they want you to hear to mold your opinion. Sickening all around!

The problem is that there are people who are not average joes and do know exactly what is happening.  They’re speaking out and being fired because of it.

Jabberwalker - I didn't present any information for it to be inaccurate. Just stated that some analysts are predicting lowest prices since 2020. Gemini AI will give you that same answer. If you're interested in their data source you'd have to look that up.

I don't pay attention to analysts or get caught up in the propaganda. Just like to play devils advocate and point out how little we actually know about anything.

We are told what they want us to know, I've never understood us average joes trying to rationalize the decisions the most powerful people in the world make. Do you really think there isn't more to every military move we make that we can't understand because we don't know the big picture?

The white house literally has a script put together for reporters, and that's what is presented to the common public. We know EXACTLY as much as they want us to know. Trust the process.

Junkie, its hard to trust the process when you were told that Iran's military was 100% obliterated 3 days after the war started, and then for the last 3 months that a deal was imminent. I'm reading reports that Iran may still have up to 70% of their missiles, and we are going broke shooting $1500 dollar drones down with $1M dollar missiles.  Regardless they still have enough military might to control the Strait.   So something isn't adding up.
