Looks like they just needed me to call them out.  Complain about not playing small ball, they whack multiple home runs (first 3 home run game since April 25),  I complain about offensive productivity, they post big numbers......I complain about Bregmans bat, he goes yard....finally

Hope it not just a one game streak....lol

yeah fish, good post... im not saying there arent positives, its just hard to notice with all the compounding negatives.   imanaga, according to statmuse is in a 4 way tie for 2nd in hrs given up (17)....tallion leads the league with 20....the fact that we have 2 pitchers in the top 2 is....well, embarrassing....Tallion in my honest opinion is utterly worthless and should just be outright released....i get with all the injuries thats tough, but now even hes hurt.  Rea is average, AT BEST.   We definitely need another top end starter, and our injured guys like boyd to come back and pitch to their capabilities.

you point out positives on Bregman, and i agree....he also hits some long foul balls....i will give him this, his defense has been solid.   But what hes mired in is more than a slump.

Ben Brown has been magnificent, the clear ace of the staff and i will say, i really like pretty much the entire bull pen....but when you cant score, they get no help in looking good.

As for that facebook group, that guys an idiot....the brewers are hitting fewer hrs than anyone, yet run production is through the freaking roof and theyre taking the division to school and small ball is one of the big reasons...his assertions show hes blinded by personal bias.   we all love the long ball, but crooked numbers are always better than solo shots.  Like you, i also disagree.

denesox I see your comments and agree with them.  However, as a team positive plays are the start to turning things around.  Funny how PCA wasn't hitting jack squat in the beginning of the season when the Cubs were getting those winning streaks now he's one of the hottest hitters in the major leagues!  We only have had two good starting pitchers as of lately and one of them didn't even start the season as a starting pitcher!

Bregman, I can't understand his lack of offense, but Pat Hughes did make a great point.  He's hitting the ball, but he's been very unlucky in spot placement of his balls.  Looking at the statistics the best I can (cause you can ask Google just about anything) roughly 75 percent of his balls hit into play have resulted in outs.  His .248 batting average and 38.8% of his batted balls reaching an exit velocity of 95 mph or higher are about average.  Strikeout rate is 16.7 percent, which is better than average and BB percentage 10.2%, slightly above average .  I hope he turns things around yet this season with more hits, and I think he will.  Every player goes through some slumps. EVERY player!  It just looks bad when you sign a player for that kind of money then he sucks, lol!

Imanaga hasn't been consistent, though more times than not this year he has been good.  I think his strikeout rate to batters is among league leaders this year, but correct me if I'm wrong on that.  He probably also leads the league in homeruns allowed!  What a surprise Ben Brown has been.  Glad he's been able to find two more pitches over the offseason.  Now batters are having a harder time figuring out what he's throwing.  Out of the bullpen, Daniel Palencia has had a few hiccups but overall is pitching well when he's put in to finish the job.  Jacob Webb has also been good. Taillon is hopefully only here until other starters return or we trade for a key starter at or near the trade deadline. Colin Rea has been alright, but his strikeout rate is lowest of the key starting pitchers right now.

So I see some positives, just not consistent.  Small ball I think is key to winning more of these 1-run games.  When we were winning we were doing that. Now, Stop swinging for the fences!  Someone disagreed with me on one of the Cubs Facebook groups about this and said this day in age the game is a home-run first style game.  I disagree.  Get back to Little League basics and learn how to score runs when you have them in scoring position! I guarantee you we'll score more runs playing small ball than we would always swinging for the fences!

i will go even further!

Tonight they squandered Imanagas best outing in over a month, he was great....and they squandered it not because of the pen, but because they could only muster 2 measly runs in what is historically the single best hitters park MLB has ever seen... against statistically the WORST PITCHER IN THE MAJOR LEAGUES!  his era was near 9 coming into this game....i think a little league team busted him up for 8 runs in 3 innings last week....but against these cubs the guy looked like a cy young candidate.

I struggle to find the positives...This team just cant drive in runs, they lead the league by a wide margin in runners stranded on base and in scoring position.  They have precisely 3 clutch hitters...PCA, Haap and Conforto and you need more than that to carry an offense.  They refuse to play small ball, i can't remember the last sac bunt...if guys are consistently striking out or popping up with guys on base, at least advance a runner with the out....id love to see the squeeze bunt come back into play with this team.

Bregman is looking like one of the worst signings of the past decade...god i hope he turns things around at some point, but I'm not holding my breath....but right now he's just one gigantic offensive liability.

I think Homer must have been watching the Cubs.

A few positives with some hitters on the team.  A few positives from the pitching staff as well.  Seems like we can't get both working at the same time though! Injuries happen, but what the Cubs have experienced this year (especially on the pitching end) is excessive! Maybe we'll have a good second half of the season, who knows, but this is a 162 game season, so there's still a lot of ball to play!

a month ago they looked like the best team in the league....since then they have been the worst team in the league.

great defense, but it doesnt matter when your pitching staff (im looking at you starters...tallion is godawful) is giving up dingers like theyre pitching in the home run derby....this staff comfortably leads the league in hrs given up.

offensively theyre getting on base, but the more on base, the worse the hitting becomes....with the bases juiced theyre batting like .190...and with 2 outs, even worse.

in clutch situations Bregman might be the worst hitter in the NL.

Another game last night we should've won.  We had plenty of scoring opportunities, leaving the bases loaded then striking out next two batters, running into a double play, attempting to steal (actually I think that one worked).  Ugh, this team is the tale of two different teams showing up this year!
