Got some good offense again last night. I was watching it muted during my son's Scout meeting, so I missed a lot of the game, but I did see the replay on PCA's slide. He knew right away as he walked off the field that he was safe and he was already high fiving everyone in the clubhouse, lol!
Pedro Ramirez, Cub's Number 2 prospect is in Chicago today and has been called up from Trip A. Where do we have room for him is the question? He mainly plays third base and 2nd, which already both have two guys playing there. DH? We're covered there as well. Welcome to the show, Ramirez!
the_dude,
I couldn't agree more with what you posted. I am a HUGE fan of PCA and the way he plays 99% of the time. I figured his offensive slowdown during the second half of last season as the league figured him out would help him "grow" as a player, I was wrong.
He's getting a bit of a comeuppance now and I hope he learns from it but I doubt it because as you said Counsell doesn't have the guts to really straighten him out and make him fly right !

I really like Counsell as a manager. But I don't think Counsell is doing PCA any favors by constantly making excuses for him. I thought CC's response to the situation with the fan on the south side was silly. "Pete made a mistake... I think he's aware of that. And that's it....we have to move on from it." That's not a real strong message. You "think" Pete is aware he made a mistake? Um, as manager isn't it your job to make SURE he knows he made a huge mistake? I would make it clear that behavior will not be tolerated. He has also routinely made excuses for his temper tantrums. How many times can you use the "he wears his emotions on his sleeve" line for someone acting like a petulant child? IMO, treating one player with kid gloves like that is a great way to lose your entire locker room. If I'm on that team, I would be quietly wondering "Why is PCA never held accountable when the rest of us are?" If I'm manager, I both publicly and privately call out his behavior with the fan in much stronger terms. And based on his mentally checked out play I saw against your chief rival, PCA would be benched for a while. If you can't get dialed in for a Brewers series, you are sitting. Again, even if it doesn't change PCA's behavior, at least you are sending a message to the rest of the team. No one is above our standards. Period.
I think PCA needs some tough love, and quick. And I think that's the unfortunate reality of CC's style and demeanor, he won't give that tough love needed. I don't think he is the right manager for a personality like PCA.
