Chitown…Another good game for our Cubs today. The Cubs (12-7) beat the A’s (10-10) by the score of 3-1.
The best part of this game was that our new pitcher Imagana threw 4 1/3 innings giving up 0 runs. He only faced 16 batters giving up 3 hits, 0 BB and had 9 strikeouts.
Our starting pitching looks good this year and I hope it continues throughout the season
Go Cubs!

I’m always interested in a Cubs win Chi. I followed some of the game online. There were some good at bats for some of the regulars. A couple things that stood out to me were that Hendricks seems to be in good form, but I was a little disappointed in what Neris had to offer. The other thing was that some of the young prospects really struggled at the plate today. That’s nothing unusual and just the reason they will start their season down in the minors. I think we’re in good shape for now and I look forward to opening day
Let’s go, batter up, we’re takin’ the afternoon off.
It’s a beautiful day for a ball game, for a ball game today
The fans are out to get a ticket or two
from Walla Walla, Washington to Kalamazoo
It’s a beautiful day for the home run but even a triple’s okay
We’re gonna cheer and boo and raise a hullabaloo at the ball game today.

Great interview with the skipper from yesterday.
If you’re a Cubs fan, it’s worth the listen

The “club option” really isn’t an incentive for the player, it’s more of an opportunity for the team to opt out if the player doesn’t meet expectations. Bellinger’s contract has a “players option” which allows him to test free agency after the end of the 1st year and the 2nd.
I haven’t seen the details of his contract other than the guaranteed money and opt out after each year. My bet would be that Boras demanded the Cubs use the “player option” to get him to sign.

Hockeyguy…The Cubs didn’t want to resign him to a long term contract. Although he had a good season last year, the two prior seasons he struggled with the Dodgers. If he repeats his production from last season, he has the option to opt out and try the market again. It is in essence a one year rental if that’s the case. Think of it as insurance for both parties.
Can someone explain how Bellinger's deal is not essentially a one year contract if he plays well again? The only way he returns in year 2 is if he has a down year and knows he'd get nowhere near the $30M he's set to make in that second year. Great that we have him for another year now, but player options for years 2 and 3 on a 3 year deal seem sketchy to me.
