Chicago Bears

Some notes on the Bears' minicamp from football.com.

Quarterback Jim Miller looked to have no ill effects from the health problems he experienced during mini-camp. One thing that did impress us is how Miller was threading the needle in between defenders. He was on target and had a good amount of zip on the ball. We have to imagine that some of his receivers may have had sore hands after hearing the cracking sound of the ball hitting them in the hands on many occasions. Another thing that may be a bad omen for Chicago opponents is how the deep passes were hitting the receivers.......right in stride many times. And on the incompletions, there were no short rounds that would be easy pickings for defenders. In a nutshell, Miller showed no weakness in terms of arm strength. Chris Chandler also made some nice throws, but it was Miller who impressed us most.

Another thing that stood out were the dropped passes.......or maybe we should say the lack thereof. The Chicago receivers took some heat last season for their inconsistent play, specifically drops and bad routes. Outside of some rustiness by Marcus Robinson early in the day, the drops were pretty much absent, and the routes looked sharper. Marty Booker still looked to be the man, and even took a bow after hauling in a bomb that prompted the fans chant his name. But Dez White and David Terrell were sharp as well. White has made major progress in his game from 2001. So much so, that Booker and White are the starting receivers at this point, according to coach Dick Jauron. David Terrell is right there on his heels, and appears to be all business as he enters his second season.

There’s quite a few mock draft scenarios that have one of the top three receivers being available at #9. If that’s the case I would think that it would be an easy pick for them. Nobody knows how it will play out and we’ll have to wait and see what happens

I expect the top three WR prospects to be gone but, I agree, one of those being available will be tough to pass up.  Plus, Keenan Allen should gobble up a lot of targets if he plays in the slot.

Anything is possible, but I would think that the Bears would use that #9 pick for themselves. There’s some very highly rated receivers that should be available at the #9 spot and adding to their quality receiving corp is not out of the question. This all depends on what they get offered for that pick of course, but a quality receiver would have an immediate impact on their offense

I’m expecting Poles to trade down from #9 perhaps multiple times to get more picks.  That said, he may just have another top prospect fall into his lap at that slot.

I think they are offsetting some of the carbon emissions concerns with renewable sources of energy like solar panels and wind turbines once the stadium is in operations

You guys will definitely get a Super Bowl game there after it is built. Them are times you really wish your team gets to the SB so you can play at home!

The big opening on the north end of the stadium is a window Snake. It was designed so that the spectators could view the Chicago skyline. There are multiple big screens for viewing the game with the largest at the south end of the stadium. The green spaces to the north of the stadium add an additional 14 acres to what is presently around the stadium now. They incorporated the historic colonnades from the old stadium into a pedestrian mall and pavilion.

I suspect the carbon emissions to build this monstrosity will be astronomical.  Then we have to heat, cool, and power it.  Where are the protesters and government officials that tell us they are saving the planet?

Today is a huge day for Bears fans.  Enjoy it!

I don’t have a dog in the fight either but think it’s pretty cool. Is the big rectangular opening on the one end actually a big screen making it look open? When your outside, it looks like you can see the inside of stadium, and if your inside, you can see Chicago.
If that’s the case, it will be a gigantic big screen inside showing the game and replays.
Maybe it will show the game on the outside too?
Will they have reconfigure the NASCAR track when the rednecks show up to race? 🥴
Addition: After watching video again it is probably just glass?

I don't have a dog in the fight but I like the idea of the Bears staying downtown and at the historic Soldier Field site.  While I'm not a fan of domes for sporting events, it is probably the wise choice for a multi-use facility.  Especially one partially funded with public moneys.  Video almost left me with a tiny warm spot in my heart for da bears......almost, but not quite.

Long live the NFC North!  Go pack Go!
