Had my 6 month check up and the doc has basically lifted any restrictions from me, except he said to just listen to your body on how far I can go.
Everything looked good, even taken off of some of the medications he had me on. All feels pretty good, no more pain at all and I can walk more than 50 feet with resting.

Been about 13 weeks since the surgery, all went well except one of the bones shifted ever so slightly, so my spine is out of alignment just a tad. The doctor said that he is not really concerned about it right now, we just have to keep on eye on it.
There is no more pain in the legs and I can walk all I want to, albeit a little slower than I used to, but I sort of expected that. Still have numbness in the toes on the left foot. Dont know if its neuropathy or from the surgery, he says that could take up to a year to improve.
Went to PT and now just doing the exercises at home that the therapist gave me, it really makes a difference, it loosens everything up and makes it easier to move.
I told the surgeon that I want to started working on replacing the vinyl plank flooring in my kitchen, and he said to wait another 3 months on that one , have another appointment to see what he says then.

Okay guys, update #1...they moved my back surgery up to 12-2, my surgeon was also on call that night, I didn't get into my room until 11pm !!! They told me that after the gas was wearing off, I tried to get off the gurney, lol..
Took two guys to push me back down. Anyways, im back home, over 90% of the leg pain i had is now gone   still minor numbness in the left foot. Still on pain medication, but i want to cut those back ASAP.
I think my body just has to get used to the new system, rather than the last 2 years of pain.
I will provide some updates as things change.
Thanks, phil

Hi all, an update for you.
My surgery is scheduled for December 5th, got to get the physical done in mid November.
Right now that's the best I can tell you. I will just be glad when it's all over, the timing is pretty good, I won't miss much fishing next year, if any, we'll see how the pain is, but from speaking with people who went thru this, I should be good.
I will keep posting updates.
Thanks

Thanks west!

I've certainly been working hard to get where I am today.
It's like a full time job, lol!

But I must say,... hip replacement surgery is nothing to take lightly, even though quite different.  It doesn't hold a candle to a knee replacement surgery or two!

I can't comment on shoulder replacement surgery as that's two I've never had the pleasure of experiencing,........yet! 😳

Back surgery for pain is another.
Best of luck to you my friend, get well soon,& enjoy all the things you love to do!

It always amazes me how quickly people recover after a hip replacement. Especially with the anterior approach now-a-days (used to be a posterior approach, they'd have to dissect through your glute med which is the main hip stabilizer so it prolonged the healing process and you had restrictions on how far forward you can bend and rotate the hip, very annoying) Really shows how much the human body can handle!
Glad to hear recovery is going well, keep at it!

I've had right(2019)& left(2023)knee replacements,& both surgeries went extremely well, as did the rehab while working with an amazing Physical Therapist both times.

September 10,2025, I went in for right hip replacement surgery. I will also have the same Physical Therapist work with me. She will help get me where I need to be, so I'm ready for the upcoming icefishing season!
Update on hip replacement as of today: PT twice a week for 2 weeks, now just once a week. All my work is done from home, I stopped Oxycondone after 10 days, and took Tylenol when needed. I only use my cane when out in public to serve as a precaution to me from others. I've also been driving since last week,& walking 7-8,000 steps a day, along with my exercise/stretching regiment and heavy doses of R.I.C.E.
Just came in for a little lunch, now to go back outdoors and enjoy the beautiful day with some light yard work. The biggest thing is, know when to take a break.
Over doing leads to soft tissue issue which can be quite painful. Don't ask, lol.

Yes, I do get 2 opinions from different orthopedic surgeons from 2 different Health Care Facilities, then weigh my options.

I'm actually going to physical therapy because after my surgery my toe does not move and my ankle is weak, so they are concentrating on that right now.
And I can't go to physical therapy for the next couple weeks because I had mohs surgery on my nose for cancer, and I'm not supposed to do anything physical for a couple weeks.

Glad to hear you're getting in for some PT. If I remember right your surgeon initially told you walking was the only rehab you'd be doing. I just don't understand that. Hope things keep progressing in the right direction for you. It's definitely a long process once you start to change the structure of your spine, lots of adjustments your body needs to go through!

It's taking a long time for my pain to subside in my back where they screwed it together but definitely making slow progress. I'm doing physical therapy right now.
Thanks for asking Junkie4Ice 👍

I have been keeping in touch with Sswpriz, but I will let him tell you what's going on, I don't know if he wants it private or not.

Curious on some updates for you guys on how you're feeling after your surgeries - Westfield, Sswpriz I think was looking into a second opinion and I think there was one other. Things going well?
