I had a competitior 185 tiller that I split a hull on fishing in the merc national, wind was blowing out of the north at 25mph,  6 footers did it in. Aluminum Craft was very good about fixing it at no charge . dealer sent it back in the late fall, i went and picked it up at the factory, they gave me a nice tour.

Very surprised to hear that about the alumacrafts. Know many that own one and I have myself. Nothing but positive experiences here. All companies have issues though.

hope you are happy with the result Maniac... I'm on my 3rd Alumacraft and no issues here... current rig is used more by my sons due to some physical limitations on my part, but they do get me out... current is a 2012 Competitor 165 tiller ... frankly have owned 3 Alumacrafts, a Crestliner FH1750 sc, and a Mirrorcraft 14' deep fisherman... no issues with any of them

good luck

still interested in which model there were issues with the hull, and the kind of damage incurred

I have found Alumacraft to be very good at backing up their boats.  I am leaving this morning for the factory to pick up my 2007 165 Classic SC. They replaced the transom with a solid one piece aluminum transom.  Can't wait to get there and see it, they've had it 5 weeks.

Welded or riveted hull?

Ted, not sure which site you are referring to. But many times when posts turn ugly or start bashing each other the admins will remove the post. Just a thought.
