Just looking for ANY logical explanation!!  ( We're on an island on LOTW - Ontario) We docked the boat for the day. We were going to head out fishing and I turned on my Humminbird  and no depth, temp etc. GPS / tracks worked. Looking at the cable in the water it wasn't evident where the problem was. while we were out fishing my buddy says I think this is the problem. He pulled the cable thru the plastic keeper and up into the splash well. After loading the boat yesterday we realized there was about 3-4" of cable missing from above the transducer to the end we had in the boat!  Beaver?? Turtle??

Update I have purchased a new transducer on EBAY. Maybe I'll try and put a protective covering over the cable the last 10-16 inches. PVC pipe ?? Probably never happen again, but never dreamed it would have happened at all!!

I wonder if the wiring insulation is Soy/food based?  That would certainly draw some interest for a taste test.

I'd agree that it was a beaver especially if you seen them in the area. Our place outside of bemidji so not to far away about 5 years ago we kept seeing a beaver go past the docks at sunset and then when we put the boat on the trailer I noticed the beaver chewed the heck out of the Hydro foil on the lower unit to the point of needing replacement.

Thanks for the comment. As far I know there aren't any muskrats, but definitely have beavers in the area. It was just a heck of a surprise to turn the locator on and seeing weird readings.

Although not in Canada it's happened to me and muskrats were the culprit apparently they like to chew on the wires for whatever reason.
