Just as the title reads, what would you consider an overall good spinning reel at the $50 price point?

Not under $50. but close. Cabelas' has a great price on the Pflueger Supreme this week only at $59.95 . I paid $89. for mine several years ago and it was worth every penny. Ends on the 17th I believe.

You wouldn't go wrong with either the Pflueger Trion($30-$40) or the President. My guys and I have clients using them every day, either open water or on the ice. They've NEVER failed or let us down. Again, just my opinion/suggestion.

+1 on the President. Lot of reel for not a lot of money.

The Pflueger President or the Shimano Sedonna are both quality reels for around $50.
