So I just ordered my new boat.  Helix 9 on console and a 7 on the bow.  Connected together to trolling motor via ethernet.  Do I need to buy a lakemaster chip for each unit or will one chip work for both since they are linked?  New to hummingbirds. Had lawrance in the past

MM is correct.

They won't share mapping, but will share waypoints. So if you mark a spot on your 7 and it has a chip, the waypoint will show up on the 9's basemap or vice versa.

At least that's what they told me at Hbird CS.

Legacy & Helix require a chip per unit, Solix units can share mapping

Maybe not helpful because I cannot speak for hummingbird but Lowrance only needs 1 chip if linked via Ethernet
