I am interested in getting a Llewellin puppy. I have been keeping my eye open on the internet but have not found the what I am looking for. I am hopeful a few of the guys on here might be able to point me in the right direction. Wants: Must be White with little to non-black ticking. Must come from a close ranging line. Must be a family pet and hunting dog. With in 2 hours of Rockford Il

I would really like to bring the puppy home before winter sets in.

-- I am probably missing a few items. If I think of more I will add to the list.

I highly recommend Bierl English Setters out of Mellen, WI. Check out their website at www.bierlsetters.com. We got a pup from them the year before last and he has been an awesome addition to our pack of Setters. We were very happy and comfortable in our dealings with them. They are a little farther away than you wanted, but worth the drive. It is a beautiful area- check out Copper Falls while you are there.

Good luck! GS

From what I have heard they have a great bloodline. Same as what my pup has. Their pups are in great demand and usually sold out before the litter hits the ground.

Has anyone had any positive or negative interactions with Hickory Hollow? I am considering them for my setter?

Here is another one. They will have puppies soon. Have a great bloodline. Same bloodline as my puppy I got in July. I drove up 5hrs up to Mercer, Wi and back in 1 day to get mine. If the pup comes from good stock a long drive is worth it.

Give Craig Steinbach a call at www.fly-n-gunkennels.com, I am betting that he is who you were talking to at Pheasant Fest with Madelyn. I know that he recently had a litter out of Madelyn, not sure what the status is on the pups though.

PtnrRookie- My reasoning for this line of setters is purely based on what I have read.

It started at the Pheasant Fest when it was in Madison. I saw a beautiful setter and talked to the owner, which I lost his card, to find out about the breed. After leaving there I have read up on the breed and am now at a point that I want one. After having 2 labs I wanted to try a different breed.

My color preference is only from the pictures that I have seen of different lines. I really think the white ones with minimal ticking are very sharp looking dogs. I could handle more black but truly would like it to be less than most.

As a generality the Llewellin setters have a lot more ticking that field bred setters. So your comment regarding Must be White with little to non-black ticking may be a tough one to crack. What color do you want to go with the white, Black, Blue, Orange, Chestnut? The odds of getting a "clean" - non-ticked setter may come from a different line. JMO

Is there a reason why you would like that line of setter?
