If I do a 5 cut filet on a northern, do I need to leave a piece of skin on each piece in order to cross the border ?

Found out that yes, one line is the limit, and maximum 4 hooks on that line !

We just cut the whole fillet off and cut the ribs out. We freeze it up and skin it when your ready to fry it. Keep things simple.

Toughontrout off the top of my head I know open water fishing is limited to one line per person. I don't remember specifics on hooks.

How many hooks can you have on 1 pole in Canada, or how many single-hooked poles can you fish with simultaneously in Canada ?

Dont try bring your limit home in 5 fillets per fish cause if you get checked they will consider each fish 2.5 fish as a fish should only have 2 fillets to go across the border.

Either read gobbler's or nihsif's comments and you will have it correct. I have been told that you can NOT bring a 5 filleted northern across the border, as it will be counted as 5 fish ! just do as the video shows and you'll be fine.

My guess is it would be counted as 5 fish even with skin on. When at Erie you couldn't zipper 5 fish at a cleaning station, had to wait till you got back at cabin or they counted it as 10 fish, straight from wardens mouth.

Why not leave the skin on each piece? That's skin is great protection against freezer burn and can be taken off easily when thawed

I believe you need to leave some skin on.
