Canadian Fly In recommendations / experiences

Got back from our trip to Wright Lake out of Clark's Outposts. The accomodations were nice, boats did not leak and the motors ran excellent. They also had some really nice high back ​boat seats. The fishing was very good with a lot of walleyes in the 17-21 inch range and ​in my boat we caught 32 pike over 30 inches with a couple 38 inches as the biggest. A lot of pike in the 25-28 inch range with only a few hammer handles. Overall it was an excellent trip.

My group is looking for 1-3 guys to go to Sioux Lookout the second week of August on a fly in with Slate Falls Outposts.  They are a quality outfitter.  Expect to catch a lot of fish!  Cost is in the neighborhood of $2000.,  Check out their website.  We presently have 3 people, If interested, let me know.  Jeff

I have used Canadian Fly In fishing for years.   I have typically flown into Mimi Lake, but have also gone to Piesk and Knox.   All three lakes have been outstanding fishing.   Piesk has walleyes, Northerns, and Perch.  Piesk walleyes up to 31 inches with many 18-22 as common catch.  The northern are plentiful but are mostly 22- 25 inches but have had a couple over 40+, the perch are everywhere and run 10 - 14 inches.   Knox is primarily a big Northern lake.   Many 38 -42 inch nothern and an occaional Muskie up to 52 inches.   Mimi is a full numbers lake for walleyes 100+ walleye a day with average size 18 inches.   I have a replica Northern caught out of Mimi that is 48 inches 

Canadian fly in fishing flys out of Red Lake and if the most reasonable I have come across for pricing.   Look em up on line you won't be disappointed.  

You can stay at their resort the night before if you want, that way you can fly out 1st thing in the morning which is 7:00 a.m. They charge $50 a guy for the overnight stay.

We were up at Wright at the end of May and 1st week in June. Like most Canadian water we did our best on wind-blown shorelines, but several spots produced on both trips.. There is also a "Ice Road' that runs between Wright and the two portage lakes. Nice spot to stretch your legs and see wildlife. You have to go under the road/bridge to get to both portage lakes. Kaminiskag is a long portage (over an hour) and I had to get out of the boat a few times. Granite Boss is only a 15-20 minute portage.. Have to fish the "hour-glass" spot that separates Granite Boss. It is obvious on the map.  Believe I have a marked up map with spots. Sent it to different guy from Wisc. last year and they did well the 3rd week of June. Just PM me if you are interested.   

Thanks for the info on your trips to Wright Lake. What time of year were you up there? This is our first fly in since the early 2000s. We usually go to drive in camps or boating in.We will definitely give the ​other two lakes a try, always like exploring outside of the main lake. Thanks again for the info on your trips.

Wright Lake is a very good fishing lake. Fished it twice with the Clark's. Good average size walleye and we caught 40"+ gators on both trips. Recommend going into both portage lakes.Granite Boss is pretty easy to access. Kaminiskag can be a challenge if water levels are low. River behind the cabin is where we would go to catch our fish meals.

I have been going to sportsmans lodge on little Vermillion lake for about 20 years. Nothing fancy but great fishing.Prices are excellent,  hosts are great. Cabins are clean and comfortable. I have caught northern over 40 inches on nearly every trip. Hooked a couple that looked over 50 but didntland them. I have specially targeted walleye one day  and we caught over 80. 

The last 6 years we have used Clarks Resorts out of Vermillion Bay. This year we are going to our third lake with them. Not that the other lakes are bad, because the accommodations and fishing was great. You could catch walleye and pike right off the dock at each cabin all day if you wanted. Lots of walleye, all average sized and a lot of fun. We just like trying new lakes. They have something like 30 outposts so just tell them what kind of fishing experience you are looking for, and they will point you in the right direction.

Fishing is part of the experience, accommodations and service from the outfitter is another part to consider. I have had a bad outfitter in the past. Fishing was spectacular but the cabin, boats and motors were crap and that kind of dampens the fun. Tough to go far from camp when you are not confident your motor would start again!

Both cabins we had thus far have been great. Well maintained, fully equipped kitchen and electricity from a generator. Boats were good, always a couple of little leaks. The motors were all pretty new Yamaha's and ran great. Service directly from the Clark's staff has been excellent. When we to one of the outposts our microwave did not work. The next day they flew in a brand new microwave in the box. Best Buy isn't that good! Hope that helps, let me know if you have questions. Good luck

North Spirit Lodge on North Spirit Lake was a good experience. Large lakes with channels, islands and access to other nearby lakes.  Great walleye, perch and northern.

If you are looking for a lake with tons of perch, pike and walleye and it's easy to fish, Percy Lake. Perch size excellent, up to 13.5". pike size good, not many snakes and several over 30 up to 36".  Walleye size good, some over 20 with lots of 15-18". Numbers of all 3 excellent. We made our reservations for next year already. 

Well,,, I went north for pike and south for walleyes usually,  there's a hump just north of camp that's good for walleyes but mostly had better luck south,,there's a couple of hump south of camp close by but I did the best south of the narrows,, kinda dicey getting through there but good walkeye water to the south, north narrows always was a good producer for pike,  and there's a good hump in the far northeast bay that produced a couple 40 inchers for us,, easy lake to get around on,, narrows are ​ shallow but doable, good luck
