You can fish Canadian waters if you travel to Canada by car. It is still uncertain if they will allow you to travel by water to fish in Canadian waters.

I just read this from a fishing report! Is this true? The last sentence.

This came from Sportsman lodge in Baudette report.

Canadian Border Opens to American Travelers August 9

Progress is being made. Travelers must have a negative PCR COVID test less than 72 hours old and be fully vaccinated. At this time, we believe fishing in Canadian waters may not be allowed until a later date.

NAAT is acceptable. From Canada website

Accepted types of tests

These tests are considered acceptable molecular tests:

  • PCR - Polymerase chain reaction
  • RT-PCR – reverse transcription real time PCR
  • Quantitative PCR (qPCR)
  • Nucleic acid test (NAT) or Nucleic acid amplification test (NAATs)
  • Reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP)
  • Isothermal amplification
  • Droplet digital PCR or digital droplet PCR (ddPCR)
  • Transcription-mediated amplification (TMA)
  • RNA (Ribonucleic acid)
  • Ct (cycle threshold)
  • Sequencing
  • Next generational sequencing (NGS) or whole genome sequencing (WGS)
  • Oxford Nanopore sequencing (LamPORE)
  • Detection of the N gene
  • Detection of Orf1a/b
  • Detection of the S gene
  • Detection of the E gene
  • Detection of the RdRp gene

These tests use methods such as a nasopharyngeal (NP) swab, nose swab, or saliva sample. At this time, proof of having a vaccine will not replace a negative test result.

Toronto News reporting Canadian Border Agents could strike as early as this Friday.

I'm seeing more and more things that point to the Walgreens ID NOW NAAT test being an acceptable one at the border, including from a few camps.  It looks and feels like it's acceptable, I just wish someone could get confirmation from the Canadian Border Agency itself but I've tried 3 different times and keep getting the "it should be fine" answer.

I think I'm going to schedule a lab reviewed PCR one 72 hours out and get the Walgreens NAAT one the day before to cover all my bases.

I just called Walgreens to confirm. the Abbott ID NOW test is the same test they also call NAT. Not sure if it's typical for all Walgreens, but the one by me said results in 2 hours.

My understanding is Walgreen's has the NAAT (or NAT) test and that is supposed to be acceptable. Some Walgreen's do their own test analysis which should be a 24 hour turn around time.. Others send out their tests to be analyzed. I would call your local Walgreen's to confirm.. Good luck

Any confirmation if the Walgreens ID NOW test is acceptable? It is a molecular test, so it should be acceptable. I'm planning on crossing the border just after midnight, this damn Covid test is my only stumbling block right now. There are some Covid test sites you can pay a  premium (up to $300) to get PCR results expedited, but don't want to do that. Since I plan on crossing just after midnight, the earliest I can get tested is this Friday morning (within 72 hours). Anyone find a place to get an acceptable test with quick results?
