My boat has a 25 HP motor on it. But it is rated for a 30hp motor. Would upgrading to a 30 HP motor make much difference?

You might check with someone about the motor. It might be easy to hop it up rather than change.. I would not change a motor for 5 hp though.

My boat is rated for a 40 horse . I had a 25 for years and went to a 30 horse. I had problems with it so I bought new motor and it was a 25. There is a bit of difference but I wouldn't bother to loose money over the idea if it were me.

My 1998 14 ft Sea Nymph will get up on plane with two people just fine. But add one more and it struggles. Just wanting to find a way to remedy this situation. Already added a SE 200 tail to the lower unit.

I say if you want to go as big as you can, Do it! If you know your 25hp, then you will notice a difference. It might plane out quicker, who knows, but do it if you want to. I would max out my boat right now if I wanted to spend the money. Right now I don't. You will notice a difference.

I agree with what everybody below said with one caviot. If you are upgrading an old motor to a newer one, if may be worth it. My son has a 16' boat rated for a 30hp (I think). He had an early 80's vintage Evinrude 15 HP. I upgraded him to a late 90's vintage 25 HP. Granted that is a bigger HP increase, but the new motor is way stronger than the older one.

that's increasing your hp by 20%, so there would be some noticeable change, but maybe not dramatic, and likely not worth the expense??

question is, why are you considering? or are you just exploring the idea?

minimal increase in top speed, hole shot. Cheaper way to change performance (if that's what you're after) would be a prop change
