I was wondering if it would work to troll for walleyes with my dads 1979 7.5 Mercury 2 stroke. I'm on short budget and don't want to pay for a 4 stroke right now. I have 16" mirrocraft troller. Any input would help a lot

I have a 1750 Crestliner fishhawk with a 115. I used a 1976 7.5 Merc. for five years. It worked great for Lake Michigan 2.5-2.7. I did use it for walleye but I was limited to trolling cranks as I could only get it down to 2.2-2.3 ( which is still too fast) I caught more white bass, sheephead, catfish and Northern  than walleye. crawler harnesses were out of the question at .8-1.0.  My 7.5 ran better when I reduced the oil to 60:1.  I never tried using trolling bags. That is an option. This year I upgraded to a Yamaha T9.9. It is Awesome!

Also being a short shaft will I have to get a kicker mount plate to move up and down?

As long as it runs goon, it should be just fine

It doesn't  hardley use any  gas and idles down nice, trolls down to 1.5 mph .this motor is similar  to the 7.5 merc witch my granpa had there great motors keep them tuned up and proper fuel mix i use 50:1 full synthetic  and they'll  run forever!!!!! mines on a 15' starcraft deep v hope this info makes you try it good luck!!!
