If you use a lube or grease be sure to wipe out the hole before replacing the seat if it has been out for awhile The lube will attract all kinds of sand and grit and make the next removal even harder.

Vaseline or white lithium grease.

Plastic it pretty resistant to just about anything. I would think a little motor oil on the post would be fine. On my seat base I've actually sanded the plastic some because it was so tight.
