Mounting my new rod holder tracks?

Down to the last few days to return my new Cannon rod holder tracks and would like some opinions. I knew they were going to overhang on my smaller side rails but from a visual perspective I just doesn't look good to me. Rails are 2.25" and tracks are 3.5". I'm also worried that they may smack a pier at some point and get damaged. So my thought at this point in to get 2 lengths of square anodized aluminum tubing and screw them to the inside edge of my side rails. This would allow me to move the tracks inward so they are not overhanging. I really didn't want to do all this drilling to my new boat. Any other thoughts on how to make these work?

16 Lowe FM165. No there is no built in track system on these. I've seen gunwale mounts for specifically Alumicraft, not sure what else you may be talking about.

Traxtech (and probbaly the other track companies) make brackets to  mount them inside the gunwales for your exact situation.

What kind of boat is this on? Is there any type track built into the gunwales?

I used the Traxtech T-bolt brackets on my Lund. Might be worth a look?
