I did a lot of comparing before I bought my mod-v boat, I would have the war eagle but the price was too high, When looking at construction/motor capacity I had to rule out polarcraft and grizzly, I got the alumacraft. It's high sides are good for larger water yet even with a 60hp I can pole it into 3" or less with no problem.
We had a Grizzly Blind Duck version. There were a few bugs right away but nothing major. The boat itself was awesome and we really liked it, and used it mostly on the river. A couple of the tack welds in the subfloor let go but we didn't worry about it.
The Chinese Black motor on the other hand was a POS!
I have the Grizzy 17" model and I love it won it at SBOBT in fall years back, boat is great for getting into skinny water and it can go out in big water with the right conditions. It is not like your typical jon boats has nice high sides and not worried about taking water over side, front or back. only problem I have encountered is rivets breaking but just pop some bigger ones in. I like taking it where my glass boat would get damaged from running up on rocks.
I have a 1448, new in 2001 and love it. The thing is no rivets and thick enough that if you do damage it somehow it is easy to weld/repair. The short shaft version does take on water in rough seas (not a big water boat) but the setup I have with a 25 Yamaha 4 stroke will putt along in about 8 inches of water (great river boat) I live on the Peshtigo river.
