Ive got a 16 ft with a 40 hp merc, 1992.  Not exactly the ideal boat for pulling people around the lake.  What kind of activity can I do with this boat besides fishing?  What about tubing,  knee boards or water skiing for up and coming teenagers.  What can I do with 40 horses?

I used to pull my kids Skiing and Tubing with a 14' fiberglass Lund and a 20 hp Chrysler.  But that ended when they were around 14 yrs old.

A 40 is small but it can be done with smaller light weight people. Might be hard getting a skier or knee board out of the water, but a tube should be pretty easy. If you go with a smaller prop, watch your RPM's when not pulling somebody.

Vegas mentioned knee boarding which is kind of what I am looking at right now. Is that easier for the boat to pull than water skiing with 2 ski's?

I take it that wake boarding requires more power than knee boards and dual ski's, so wake boarding is probably out.

Get a low pitch power prop and keep the weight out of the boat.  A driver and spotter only.

We did it for years with a Mercury 50hp on a 16 foot bass boat. We did buy a aluminum prop with a lower pitch 11 or 12 and it worked better that the 14 that was on it. It was not a ski boat but we had hours of fun with it.

I pulled skiers with my 14 foot Lund with a 20 horse.  It can be done, if the skiiers aren't too large.

It certainly isn't ideal, but you should be able to do it.

Knee boarding would probably be better/easier.  Tubes, too.

Chaser, you should be able to pull a skier on 2ski's if they are a fair skier or to teach a youngster.  I Learned on a 33 hp at 22 y.o. Also, 1 person on a small tube. With that said, it would be more fun and a lot easier with more power.
