I took my boat out of storage and noticed the base of my boat seats  are all corroded  with  a crystalized  type of  substance. I cleaned this  up in the fall and  now its back  WHY?

I've got serious corrosion on the seats of my 2015 Alumacraft 1036 boat. So I'm thinking to replace those with some fold down seats. But I have doubts about the possible mounts and the sheet metal which may be too thin.

Hi buddy, this is simply due to electrolysis. The leftover let it form.

This is a question for an electrician

Or electrical engineer on this corrosion problem

Since the boat is isolated from ground

Would it not make sense to add a ground connection

And plug the boat in to ground when you're not using it

STRAY CURRENT CORROSION is simply corrosion caused by stray (leaking) current from a bilge
pump or a battery charger among other things.

There are many more types of corrosion however, the two main issues on boats involving electricity are either GALVANIC CORROSION or ELECTROLTYIC COROSION (commonly referred to as "stray current corrosion".

Electrolysis. It is common and more than likely will come back. Not a huge issue unless it is excessive.... too lengthy to try and explain why it happens. For the most part clean it up and don’t worry too much
