kicker trouble

9.9 merc, electric start, older model. Worked ok then went completely dead. Started it by hand, tried later and the electric start worked. Thinking either a solonoid or the starter motor needs rewinding. Wondering if anyone else ever had this problem and what they did to fix it...

Another thing to consider is that the motor is in neutral. There usually is a mechanical type sensor that prevents the motor from starting if the shift level is in the neutral position. Wiggling the shift lever when you are trying to start it may help.  If that works it is a good sign that the neutral sensor is worn.
