Been looking around at used outboards lately. Anyone have any luck or headaches with buying from casanovas performance out of Butler? Thanks

Casanovas performance
They sold me used motor that was 2 years older than listed on craigs list also had parts that would not work. I called next day and told them I wanted to box the deal and take my trade in back. The said they already had torn mine apart. They told me to bring it back and they would fix it while I waited and get me a new prop and anode. They fixed it and it runs great. I have filed complaints with WI dept of Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau. After the attorney general they sent me a prop that looked like one for a trolling motor. I sent it back with a picture of what I wanted. This started in March. Tomorrow is Aug 1 and no prop or anode. These guys are ruthless. Stay away. I am 160 miles away or I would be there in their face.
NO -no-no-no-NO!
My buddy has a Pristine 'older' 20 hp Merc. Something happened to the starting rope & he took it to Casanovas, and didn't see it again for 3 months! (Too busy to work on it). When he got it The upper casing was a used - beat-up part that they must have had laying around for years. PLUS,the "new" rope was worn & dirty w/oil & grease. (The BILL was $500.00). We took it out for a "test drive", and the rope bound up in the housing on the Second Pull !! Took it back and after another month (still too busy to work on it) we picked it up & replaced the rope ourselves.
I am surprised this place is still in business. When they were on the Southside, they were major shysters. They sold a guy I worked with a Tracker boat that was scratched and would not do anything about it.They said it just happens and would not knock anything off the price.
They should have stuck with selling model trains. That part was decent with fair pricing.
Casanova's has been a disreputable business for 35 years since their first store on Windlake & Muskego in the south side of Milwaukee. Lots of people have been screwed by generations of this business.
Last year, the current owner screwed a young guy next to me at the marina on an Alpha One drive rebuild. He spent over $2000 on a rebuilt drive that failed numerous times after the "rebuild". When he finally took it to a reputable dealer, they found that Casanova's had done a crap job on the "rebuild"; in fact, they weren't sure WHAT Casanova's had done, or if they had done anything to his failed drive.
I wish I had known that he was going to take his drive to Casanova's so that I could have stopped him. Please do yourself a favor and stay away, actually stay FAR AWAY from this business.
I'm not sure that there is any connection, but back in the day there was a shop called casanovas out in the muskego/wind lake area. I think it was on HWY 36 but I could be wrong. I heard a bunch of horror stories about the place, the shop was always rough looking. Had a buddy drop his motor there and go through the familiar 3 months late deal and then it still ran like crap. Eventually it went out of business for an assortment of bar room rumor-based reasons, tax evasion, crookery, drugs, prostitutes. bar talk was that some guys never got their motors back. I think that this all went down in the early 2000s. Those are some very blurry years for me but I will always remember that name.
They are a rip off artist. I bought a rebuilt Mercury XR6 150 hp from them 4 years ago. It took 3 weeks longer than i was quoted because they were so busy. First trip out in the boat it overheated. Drove back to Butler, was told they found weeds in the intake screen. Second trip out it overheated again, back to Butler. 2 more weeks with no boat. I never got a straight answer what was wrong. Four months later i am in N Min on vacation when it dies 5 miles out. I ran the kicker in to the resort. Took the boat to a mechanic and was told it was junk. Water in 1 cylinder and 2 with low compression. I then took it to Lakeside a certified Mercury dealer. They found that the motor was pieced together. It wasn't an XR6 block and had mismatched heads.3 cylinders had been sleaved. Casanovas would not stand by it or return my money. Learn from my $5000.00 mistake. Don't buy anything from them!!
