Replaced the fuel separator as a preventative measure recently.  Replaced with a Sierra 18-7789.  After install and running for about 30 seconds the engine alarm on the console came on.  We ended up disconnecting the sensor for the fuel separator.  Boat ran fine.  Was told by one source that if we would need a dealer to "reset" an engine code after replacing and then had another source state just remove and replace and nothing else needed.  Fuel separator does not leak and was careful on install of the two vertical probes which stick down but....?

Question 1. Anybody have a problem with Sierra filters?

Question 2.  Do we need a dealer to reset after install.

Question 3.  What do you think we did wrong?

Thanks for the help.

Mike

Personally no issues with a sierra, did you replace with the same part number?

The dealer does not have to reset. 2 things come to mind. Either you still have water in your fuel or the sensor is contacting the bottom of the filter. This sensor tells you if there is water in your fuel.
