We had an 8 hanging this year that was 147” and change, not official, just rough scored by us. We are pretty conservative on numbers, partly because we don’t really care so much about it, but it was within an inch or so, one way or the other. A true beast, the kind you can’t appreciate in pictures and have to hold it in your hands to know. Shot by a lady hunter, open sights and smooth bore 12 gauge.

Score is just something people always want to know in the horn porn era we are living in.  Big 8’s don’t get their credit because of it, and outfitters see them as cull bucks for the same reason.  I think they’re awesome.

We had one on trail cam a few years ago that was a truly mature deer, amazing animal. Would love to have gotten him, but it didn’t happen. Neighbors finally got lucky on him in the rifle season. Biggest 8 I’ve ever seen, and I never got to see him after they got him.  Might try to post a pic later if I can find one.

It takes one damn big rack to see 140 class 8pt.  I've seen two in my life dead,  they are something else.  I have a 62 3/8th 4 pt shed.  It's amazing and more than likely doesn't make 140 because it was from Illinois.  I suspect it had around a 14.5-15 inch spread.  he is HEAVY and long tines.  I'm sure that buck on the hoof would take your breath away.

Like others said,  Bull shot a darn nice buck.  I wouldn't worry about that number everyone is so infatuated with.  If you are hunting a number,  don't shoot a 8pt.

That buck is high 120's and maybe pushing 130".  I see nothing from those pics that says 146".  We have an 8 point with a kicker on the wall at the cabin that scored 136 and change and a 10 point that scored 147 and change and they both look bigger than that deer.  Only reason this one would keep up in scoring is the spread being a little more than the deer on my wall.

I am would say 120-130. I am with LB that 23 is quite a liberal estimate for the beams. Either way, that is a great 8!

Beams are going to be the key.  23 is fairly gracious est.

Bull, your 8 is impressive! I'm going to say 135 and change... Here's the math:

6.5" G1

9" G2

8" G3

17" of mass

23" mains

= 57.5" (multiply this by two)

= 115"

Now add the 19.5" spread...

= 135.5" rough gross score

If that guess of 146 is for Bull's 8pt,  that's a bit high...  130 gross is what i'm looking at approx.  It's a beautiful 8,  not taking that away but it looks bigger than the number will be.

The kill pic is a money shot.  you have to look at the velvet trail cam pic.  that trail cam pic,  if it was a 10 would be mid 130's with two G4's at about 3 inches.  Just my opinion though.

And the back view of a deer's rack makes them look 15-20 inches bigger than they really are.

Bull,

That's a stud.  Congrats!

I'll guess 146 gross.  Let us know when you get a score.  I'd be curious.

What do you think this one will score? 19.5 inside spread and the brow tines are 6.5. Can't wait to get him back from the taxidermist! Main frame 8 with only one small kicker.
