Wisconsin Bear Hunting
3/24/08 @ 8:41 PM
i got a tag this year for bear hunting and i amm looking for some advice. i am wondering wear i should bait on my land. the last 2 years i have had a friend and a family member hunt the same stand and both have seen bear and got them on the trail camera at the same stand. my dad thinks that i should hunt on the other side of the land which is across a fairly messy swamp. do bears really travel that far and through that much just to get food. any advice is greatly appreciated. thanks. notice the screen name. that is literally the spot that the bear have been seen and that is not a joke. the spot is called bearhill and that is the name of the road we r closest to.

Telling the difference between boars and sows is really pretty easy. Sows are short and are pear shaped (small front quarters with humped rear end and boars have bigger front shoulders and are longer. Like dogs the snouts are long and narrow on sows and boars the snout is squared off and shorter.
Still trying to learn about bears and bear hunting permits.. I bought land in Price county.. how can you tell the difference between male and female.. l understand in the spring.. sows have cubs... I have a picture of a bear last September and this spring.. is this a good size bear? Male iam guessing..

We need your help today (9/18) and tomorrow (9/19). It’s time to make our voices heard and protect the balance of our ecosystems and our hunting heritage. We urge you to reach out and demand the immediate delisting of the gray wolf.Take Action Now (9/18 - 9/19):Please call and message the following Senators and express your support for the wolf delisting bill: Sen. Tammy Baldwin (WI) at (202) 224-5653 and byweb messageSen. Chuck Schumer (NY) at (202) 224-6542 and byweb messageMessaging Guide:"Hello, my name is [Your Name], and I am a concerned citizen and a hunter from [Your City/State]. I am calling to urge Senator [Tammy Baldwin & Chuck Schumer] to support the immediate delisting of the gray wolf from the Endangered Species Act. Wolves have had a significant negative impact on our deer hunting and continue slaughtering our livestock and pets, with a growing concern that children could be next. |
Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin may ultimately cast the deciding vote. I’m asking you to reach out to her and let her know that as a Wisconsin hunter, this is an important issue to you and your family. Let her know that Wisconsin had the lowest gun hunting deer harvest in recorded history, in 2023, due to the unmanaged wolf population. Confirmed wolf kills on livestock and pets were up 40% in 2023. Wisconsin DNR reports within the 2019-2024 period there have been over 600 Depredations (kills) (67% Confirmed Wolf, 90% Likely Wolf) and another 100 Wolf Threats. Over 5,000 animals negatively Impacted by wolves during the last 5 years. Tell her any negative personal experiences you have had with your livestock, pets or children because of the exploding wolf population. Also, let her know that you are aware she is up for reelection in November and that you will be voting in that election. You can reach her at her Senate office at 202-224-5653 and send her a web message today. Tell her that Hunter Nation asked you to call! |
I know this is a bear hunting forum, but wanted to comment after reading about the wolves......
A friend in the Portage, WI area has trail camera footage of a wolf, or maybe more then 1, but he has pictures of a wolf with a fawn in it's jaws........10days out of 12 from this past July. Pictures were sent to his cellphone as the trailcam was a cellular trailcam. I don't know if the cycle has continued, but haven't heard from the friend in awhile.
Wolf must have been feeding a litter of pups? Or just eager to kill.........
I can only imagine why the deer numbers are down up North.
