Mounts...Let's see 'em!

Got the text I'd been waiting for yesterday!  My shoulder mount of the buck I shot opening day last season was finally done!  Ran up there to pick it up and I have to say I am really happy with how it turned out!  Fantastic attention to detail and the eyes, which I feel are among the most important aspects of quality taxidermy, are perfect!

Now if only I had an understanding wife who realized the best place to display it is above the fireplace

Very nice.  Was that your ice fishing pike from a couple years ago?

I like the skull mounts just as much as the shoulder mount. Lot less money. He’s got be big before I’d shoulder mount. Like that buck Lucas shot on the 2023 LL gun contest

Setterjack, really nice looking deer. I really like the racks that are not a normal "non typical" but just ones that have a lot of character and a few crazy points.

My favorite is still my 10 point/22 inch spread in velvet I shot with a bow. My taxidermist estimated it at 155 but said velvet deer are scored a bit different? Anyway, sure is a pretty deer.

I have 3 shoulder mounts in my home ranging in size from the upper 130's to 150".  I also have the rack from my FIL's 11 pointer he shot with a bow years ago in Necedah.  It gross scores in the upper 150's.  Someday, if I get the right cape, I may head mount that rack.

Pic of a 10 pointer I killed in southern IL and my FIL's 11 point rack.

I was fortunate in that where I killed the 10 pointer in IL was very close to the shop of award-winning taxidermist Jody Green.  He is a master taxidermist and sculptor and has his own line of whitetail forms (Prodigy Series) offered in Van Dykes taxidermy supply catalogue.
