I am looking into leasing land for bow/gun deer and turkey hunting. I am looking for something within an hour or so of home (Arena, northwest of Madison) and has around 100 acres (give or take) of ground.

If you lease could you chime in on what you pay per acre, where you found out about the lease from, and if you are looking to lease land please contact me ASAP I would appreciate it.

I am a responsible hunter with a group of three others (my dad, brother and my son).

I have heard of guys paying thousands of dollars for leases so this got me checking.  If you get permission to hunt on a persons property for free or a fee under $1000.00 they are exempt/legally liable if you get hurt while hunting/using it recerationaly.  This is for Wisconsin 895.52.

So if you pay more than $1000.00 the land owner has an obligation on keeping you safe.  I know there are land owners looking for the big bucks $$$ and guys are willing to pay, but this is a quick way to loose a lot.

There are forms on the web, where you sign and the owner signs and they are exempt for any civil law.  I print these out and get permission to hunt propertys with no lease fee.

Just food for thought.

I have 2 leases both in Columbia co one is 500 for 80 acres but 75 is all field great early bow season but once crops come off it's a bit slow but it 500 bucks so no biggie other is 41 acres that butts  up to public it's 650 it yr by yr this yr we had guys every 50 yards along the fence line never saw a deer. Would love to get one good peace in dodge county close to home. But we always seem to finish the season but good ground is hard to find. And I knock on alotta  doors.  I've  heard everything from get outta here to 19k. If you don't own it it's ruff. But if your young and have a strong back there's miles  and miles of great public land but your gonna work for it. Anyone thats young  and has the drive I be more then happy to show you where but it's a LONG LONG DRAG. Last two guys shot a 150 class and a 180 class took them 6 hrs to get it out but they got there head funny thing no one has ever done it twice??

We pay $1250 between 4 guys on 65 acres in Westfield. It's very reasonable. In the same area $2000/40 acres seems to be the avg.

A buddy of mine and I are also looking for a lease of approximately the same acreage. We live in Barneveld so same general area. If I hear of something that doesn't work for us, I will gladly let you know. If you run into something that doesn't work for you, message me. Hope you find what you are looking for. Not much out there.

Ask around and keep looking online and in the paper on a regular basis. There are a lot of people looking for leases in the good areas. We had a lease a few years ago that we got through word of mouth. It was 67 acres of thick heavy woods 2 miles down the road from our main farm in Northern Marquette Cty. Not ideal terrain, but close enough to agriculture that deer moved through it or bedded there regularly. I don't remember the exact price. I think it was $1200. Unfortunately we lost the lease because they had family that wanted to hunt there. We are still in the market for a lease, but nothing close enough to the main farm and in our price range has become available. They are very hard to come by.
