I have 3 Polaris atv's all are different models, they all have same motor in them(500) which means they all take same oil/filter kit from Polaris. These kits are vary pricy so my question is this: does anybody use oil and or filters other than Polaris? as I would vary much like to buy oil by the gallon, I'm sure it would be a lot cheaper.

Do not run fram filters on anything they do not filter small enough and have a tendency to collapse i have seen many motors blow up because of fram oil filters but as others have said any synthetic 0-40 will work if you need a cross reference for any of the other fluids let me know the Trans and front hubs if you have a older model that has Hillard clutches in the hubs for the 4 wheel drive you can run synthetic atf I can't remember what goes in the differentials off hand

Amsoil 0W40 with a fram filter. Fleet Farm carries both the oil and filters.

Thanks for your help so far, I just got back from up north. I changed all three machines oil this trip what a rip-off @ $35.00 per oil kit, which is two quarts of oil and a filter, that's $105.00 for six quarts of oil and three filters.....ouch!! farm fleet oil sounds much better than the Polaris liquid gold! but is that the right oil weight(0-40 weight) for all one lunger's(500cc)machines? -Cosmo

Not sure if the Polaris is a wet clutch, but if it is (Suzuki's have a wet clutch)you best make sure you oil says "wet clutch" compatible.

I use Amsoil as well and have had good luck with it.

Polaris doesn't make their own oil, they just have one of the big guys put their label on it. I use Fleet Farm oil and Fram filters in my Sazuki ATV and Yamaha 4 stroke outboards and never had a problem.

I have a 500 sportsman. I use 0-40 weight synthetic from farm and fleet and fram filters. No issues ever. Good luck.
