It is almost time. I love checking this often. Gets me fired up hearing reports from others.
aim small, miss small
During the past 5 days I've seen two 10's, an 8 a nine and a monster in huge brush....at least 12-13pts. Yesterday afternoon, around 3 the 9 was guarding a doe & when the buck was startled, took off down a hill & the doe got up & chased him. I've never seen that...ever. 3 days ago the deer were out early and seemingly everywhere. Maybe it's the warm temps that may have pushed estrus back a bit this year, but whatever the case...sure have seen a bunch of beauties the past few days...The WI deep pop. has to be at record levels.
We have cameras around our cabin that sends pics right to our phones and things have slowed drastically since beginning of the week. We were getting lots of pics of bucks for a couple weeks but now only does and fawns. Bowhunting was surprisingly great this past weekend even with the warm temps and wind. Almost seems that best time has passed.
Still getting some nice bucks on the cameras but all at night?. Sat this evening had a nubber buck hangin around, then a 2nd deer came in, another nubber, they hung out then went their separate ways. At just about dark two deer come trotting thru, a small doe and another nubber which may have been one of the earlier two.
I got a real nice doe in the freezer from three weeks ago and nothing but yearlings ever since? Keep trying.
Driving to pheasant hunting this morning about 8 noticed a nice buck out in the middle of a field came back through 2 hours later he may have moved 20 yards but this time the lady he was with was standing up. Fdl county so they are moving but starting to get locked down with the ladies.
Saw one doe last night. Seemed like she was being pushed but nothing following. Seen 4 does this morning so far just milling around. The couple scrapes I have seen look like they have been recently freshened. Way over dressed. Hope this heat doesn't shut them down.
Sitting in my elevated box blind today to stay out of the wind. Hopefully it’s not a ground blind by the end of the day, couple of the gusts have me questioning what I’m doing.... snowing and blowing like crazy. Doe and buck fawn bedded 75 yards from me so it could happen at anytime.
